Systematic archeological studies were led in the Russian empire from 1830. It is justified by the creation ofprofessional scientific organization from I860. Among those who contributed the to our science, we can cite: the Academy of sciences, the Geographical society, the Archaeological Society in St. Petersburg as well as Moscow Archaeological Society which became the organizer of the archaeological congresses in Russia.

The development of prehistory in Russian empire was in narrow relation with Western Europe. It is therefore completely normal that in the course of the 19th century an international scientific collaboration sets up between the both countries. The exchanges among scientists were as necessary as regular. Trips abroad, work in library and in laboratory, participations in symposiums and conferences allowed France and Russia to develop narrow and lasting scientific relations in Natural sciences.
