ABSTRACT
The article is devoted to the study of the representation of hunting in the museum exhibits of Saxony. Since the culture of hunting was very developed in the German states in the Early Modern Period, its artefacts occupy a prominent place among museum items.
With the rethinking of the attitude towards the environment, the popularity of environmental movements has led to significant changes in museum exhibitions about hunting. While in the past they were aimed at demonstrating the results of successful hunts, now they have a pronounced natural history orientation. Hunting palaces turned museums now have a rather different goal - to show hunting as a part of an everyday life of past ages. The variety of abovementioned artefacts, the ways in which they are displayed, and understanding their place within the framework of German exhibition projects deserve separate coverage. Its results may be useful for employees of Ukrainian museum institutions who are planning to rework exhibitions of natural history departments.
Within the framework of this small study, a conditional division of museums was created, between those where hunting is present as one of the topics of a permanent exhibition or temporary exhibition, and those centered on depicting the history of hunting from a certain angle. The exhibitions of the State Art Collection in Dresden, Hartenfels Castle, Königstein Fortress contain artefacts related to the history of hunting and its reflection in art. Indirectly, this topic was present in the conceptual exhibition project dedicated to memories, which took place in the Hubertusburg hunting castle in 2023. A holistic image of hunting in the Baroque era is presented in the Moritzburg Palace museum. On the other hand, the expositions of the Augustusburg and Lauenstein castles are aimed at presenting the history of hunting in the past, as well as the ecological component of nature management.
